Our Advice

Adapting to a new device

Regardless of the type of orthodontic appliance used, an adjustment period is necessary. This generally lasts a few days.

  • Mouth discomfort: The tongue, cheeks, and lips are not yet accustomed to the presence of the appliance. Irritation may occur.
➤ Applying orthodontic wax or oral gel can relieve these discomforts.

  • Tooth sensitivity: Teeth may be sensitive to pressure or chewing.
➤ It is recommended to favor soft foods and, if necessary, to take a painkiller.

Patience and gentleness are the key words: this phase is temporary.

🍬 Foods to avoid

In the context of fixed treatment (external or internal multi-attachment device), it is essential to avoid:

  • sticky foods (caramels, chewing gum, etc.),

  • hard foods (candy, bread crusts, etc.).

These foods can loosen the fasteners or deform the wires, thus extending the treatment time.

🪥 Brushing teeth

Oral hygiene should be reinforced during orthodontic treatment.

  • It is imperative to brush your teeth after each meal, paying particular attention between the gums and the brackets.

  • Insufficient brushing can lead to gingivitis or demineralization of the enamel.

What to brush with?

  • A manual toothbrush with soft bristles is sufficient.

  • An electric brush is also compatible with an orthodontic appliance.

  • In addition: interdental brushes, water flosser, orthodontic dental floss.

💡 Use fluoride toothpaste to strengthen enamel and prevent cavities.
